Contact Protocols
How signals, matches, and meetups work.
Quick reference. If you’ve used a dating app before, signals are likes that come in 10 flavors and matches are mutual signals. If you haven’t, this page explains the whole loop.
What's a signal?
A signal is a lightweight first-contact request. Pick one of 10 types (friendly, flirty, dating interest, meetup interest, roleplay, lore discussion, creative collab, event invite, weird opener, beacon), optionally write a message, and send. The receiver can accept, decline, or ignore. Accept opens a match.
What does mutual signal mean?
If you signal someone and they had a pending signal back to you, the system auto-creates a match. No need to wait for an explicit accept. Both sides get a match-created notification and email.
What's a contact protocol?
It's how you tell the system what kind of signals you'll accept. Options: Open Transmissions, Mutual Signal Only, Approved Contacts Only, Roleplay First, Dating Only, Friends Only, Lore Only, Matches Only, Classified, Cloaked. Pick whichever matches what you're here for.
What's a beacon?
A higher-priority signal that boosts your transmission to the top of the receiver's inbox. Currently free; rate-limited so it stays useful. Will become a premium feature without removing access to the regular signal types.
Can I take back a signal?
Yes. While a signal is pending (sent or seen), you can withdraw it from your /signals → Sent tab. Once the receiver responds (accept, decline, ignore), it's locked in.
What's a transmission?
A direct message inside a match. Real-time via SSE; OOC toggle for stepping out of character; up to 4000 characters per message; 500 messages per day per user.
How do real-world meetups work?
From a match conversation, hit Propose First Contact. Pick a meetup type (coffee, drinks, stargazing, UFO event, etc.), an optional date/time/location, and an optional note. The receiver accepts or declines in /meetups. Only available when the receiver opted into real-world meetups on their profile.
How do I cloak (block) someone?
Open their profile, hit Cloak this entity. They're hidden from your browse, can't signal you, can't see you in discovery, and you don't appear in each other's matches. They aren't notified.
How do I report something?
From any profile, hit File Incident Report. Pick a category (harassment, spam, scam, impersonation, underage, explicit content, threat, hate, doxxing, etc.) and write what happened. An admin reviews from /admin/reports.
